    Southern fast casual barbeque and fried chicken. Nothing too fancy. BBQ definitely needs additional sauce when eating. You get more fries if you don't get a platter and get a combo sandwich instead. Bright fluorescent lights with music from 50's and 60's. Nostalgic movie décor on the walls. Service is friendly.

    I don't understand why this place is so popular. Have you never had good barbecue before?? Always dry and tasteless unless you use an entire bottle of their watered down vinegar. You get one star for the delicious sweet tea!

    I'm giving Smithfield Barbecue three stars because don't get me wrong the food is good but the quantity isn't but will continue to go.

    The absolute best Eastern NC BBQ anywhere! I've been enjoy Smithfield's for longer than I can remember. I live in VA now and never pass up the opportunity to eat at one whenever I'm in NC. Their BBQ is seasoned perfectly, and the BBQ sandwhich is my go-to. They still use polystyrene cups and tiny crushed ice, so drinks stay cold for hours (which is very important when driving 3 hours north through VA). My only complaint - no Coke Zero.
